What is Java?

Java is a programming language created by Sun Microsystems and released in 1995. It is used in most industries and one of the key features underpinning it's success is the ability for Java to run on any platform. This is in direct contrast to the Microsoft .Net framework, which cannot be used with ease on Linux or Apple based systems.

Java is a flexible platform and using this technology we have created a diverse array of applications. For example we have used Java to create amongst other things:

  • A cross platform proxy server
  • A 3D modelling tool for graphic designers
  • A set-top box application
