What is Microsoft .Net?
Microsoft .Net is a framework redistributed with the majority of the Microsoft Operating Systems. We enjoy using Microsoft .Net here
at Atlas as it allows us to create very powerful applications without the time and therefore money constraints usually appplied to large
or complicated softare development projects.
Version 1.0 of Microsoft .Net was originally released in 2002 and is a relative newcomer to the programmning world. Since then Microsoft
has worked hard to increase the power and flexibility of the framework and currently we use Microsoft .Net 3.5 for the majority of our new
projects. Version 4.0 of the framework is due out in the next year or two.
More recently we receive requests from customers asking for their outdated Classic ASP website to be converted to Microsoft ASP.Net. These projects
allow us to demonstrate how much more powerful the new ASP.Net framework is when compared with previous incarnations of classic ASP.
Examples of the application we have created with the Microsoft .Net Framework include:
- Powerful e-commerce websites
- An online inventory website with an AJAX powered interface
- A mobile PDA application using the Microsoft Compact .Net Framework
- Enterprise level distributed database applications for large multinationals
