What is PHP?

PHP is a scripting language originally designed for nothing more than creating dynamic web pages. Since it's creation in 1995 the language has moved on and now used on popular sites such as Facebook.

Two of the primary advantages of PHP are the fact that it is free to use and not platform specific.

PHP 5.0 is now the most commonly used version of PHP, with PHP 6.0 due for release at some point in the future.
